BIZERTE, Tunisia (July 13, 2026) An Aedes albopictus mosquito, commonly known as the Asian tiger mosquito. The species was the focus of a recent manuscript published by Medical and Veterinary Entomology journal. The article reported the surveillance study conducted by Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) EURAFCENT to better understand its distribution and potential impact on force health protection in operational environments. NAMRU EURAFCENT, part of Navy Medicine Research & Development, conducts research, surveillance and studies of vaccines, therapeutic agents, diagnostic assays and vector control measures in the EUCOM, AFRICOM and CENTCOM Areas of Responsibility to better prevent and treat infectious diseases in support of Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter health, readiness and lethality.
