Republic of Singapore Navy Maj. Ng Yen Meng addresses U.S. and Republic of Singapore military members during a pre-sail brief during Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Singapore July 2013. More than 700 Sailors and Marines are participating in CARAT Singapore. U.S. Navy units participating in CARAT Singapore include the guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62), the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1), Military Sealift Command's Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship USNS Washington Chambers (T-AKE 11), a U.S. Marine Corps platoon assigned to 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion and the Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 7 staff, serving as CTG 73.1/CARAT Commander. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste.
