A teacher instructs Riyadh Sons of Iraq members in a pilot literacy program designed to transition SoIs into the Iraq security forces. The program, which opened its doors June 15, was envisioned by Gen. David Petraeus, the commanding general of Multi-National Force - Iraq, and is being carried out by Soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 10th Mountain Division. The course runs approximately four months and will teach the students at a 3rd to 4th grade reading level in four of the sub-districts of Hawijah, Iraq; Zaab, Abassi, Riyadh, and Hawijah city. It is the model for a future national program.
