Soldiers of 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry attempt to block a goal attempt by an Iraqi soccer team from Multaka, Iraq, June 19, as the city's children look on. In their third match of a five game series, the Task Force Summit Soldiers are utilizing unconventional methods in an unconventional war, according to Lt. Col. Christopher Vanek, commander, 1-87. "We're sticking a hand-out in friendship and meeting them on their terms - in this case, on the field, in a game of soccer," he said. The Soldiers suffered their third loss of this series, 8-0, to the young Multaka team comprised of Sons of Iraq and local students, "but gained some new respect for one another," Vanek said.
