Construction Update on the Southeast Louisiana Urban Drainage Flood Control Project (SELA 26.1a).

Our team is making steady progress along Florida Avenue in New Orleans’ Desire neighborhood (Gentilly/Upper 9th Ward) as part of the Southeast Louisiana Urban Drainage Flood Control Project (SELA 26.1a).

Construction crews are currently installing sheet piles for a Temporary Retaining Structure (TRS), which helps safely hold back soil and groundwater during construction while utilities and foundations are installed. By using the GIKEN Hammer system, we’re able to complete this work with significantly reduced noise and vibration, helping minimize impacts to nearby residents while construction moves forward.

These critical drainage improvements are part of the parish’s master drainage plan and are designed to help reduce flood risk from heavy rainfall events up to a 10-year storm. Once complete, the upgrades will strengthen infrastructure, improve stormwater management, and support a more resilient future for the community.

Every step forward brings us closer to a safer, stronger New Orleans.
