Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) ships JS Shimokita (LST 4002), JS Atago (DDG 177), JS Hyuga (DDH 181) are underway with the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4), amphibious transport dock USS New Orleans (LPD 18), amphibious dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) and a pair of landing craft air cushions (LCAC) during Dawn Blitz. The ships are participating in Dawn Blitz, a scenario-driven exercise led by the U.S. 3rd Fleet and 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (1st MEF).
