An F-51 Mustang, serial 47-3223, assigned to the South Dakota Air National Guard's 175th Fighter Squadron, sits on the ramp at Sioux Falls Municipal Airport, South Dakota, circa late 1940s. The 175th Fighter Squadron received federal recognition Sept. 20, 1946, under Medal of Honor recipient and WWII Ace Col. Joe Foss, and was initially equipped with 25 F-51 Mustangs.
