California Air National Guard Maj. Jon-Mark Koetitz and Master Sgt. Brian Miliefsky assigned to the 115th Airlift Squadron, participate in a morning brief for federal and state aerial wildland fire fighting agencies in preparation for the U.S. Forest Services annual Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) certification and training event at the McClellan Air Tanker Base, Sacramento, California, April 20, 2026. Department of War (DOW) personnel go through rigorous certification prior to participating in this aerial wildland fire mission, executing a whole-of-government response by collaborating with our interagency partners with the USDA Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and CAL FIRE. U.S. Northern Command’s Air Component Command, is the DoW’s operational lead for the aerial wildland firefighting military efforts.
