A pair of Ministry of Defense helicopters responded to a Border Police request for medical evacuation of a wounded police officer at the Walawas checkpoint in Giyan district of Paktika province, Afghanistan, June 24, within an hour of the injury. While enroute to Kabul the helicopters received orders to evacuate the remains of a Uniformed Police Officer killed in action from Forward Operating Base Rushmore in Sharan District. Pictured is one of the pair of helicopters taking off carrying the remains of the deceased officer to be evacuated to his family in Jalalabad so that his funeral can be conducted within a day of his passing. Not pictured is the helicopter wingman carrying the injured Border Policeman circling the landing zone.
