Devin Morrison receives a stone from U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Deydre Teyhen April 15 for “removing a pebble from the shoe” of military medical facilities. Morrison is the chief of staff for the Defense Health Agency’s Defense Health Network Indo-Pacific, and Teyhen is the director of DHN-IP and commanding general of the U.S. Army’s Medical Readiness Command, Pacific. Teyhen recognizes people who solve problems or remove obstacles for others. The “pebble in the shoe” concept comes from a quote by Muhammad Ali, who said “It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.” Morrison and Teyhen were participating in a Spring 2026 Strategic Offsite meeting that brought together leaders from DHN-IP and MRC, P at Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Leaders from the two organizations and their subordinate medical facilities and medical readiness units met for a three-day session to discuss military healthcare and medical readiness efforts and plan for the year ahead. The units provide medical care and medical readiness from Washington, California and Alaska to Guam, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
