Command Master Chief Jose Peña and Chief Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Equipment) Marktavius Littles cut a ceremonial cake aboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), April 1, 2026. The ceremony honored the 133rd birthday of the U.S. Navy chief petty officer, a rank established in 1893 to serve as technical experts, leaders and mentors. Carl Vinson is undergoing scheduled maintenance in its homeport of San Diego while remaining a combat-ready force dedicated to protecting and defending the United States.
