A member of Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) shows participants core samples taken during groundwater monitoring well installation during the 10th Annual Onizuka Day of Exploration at the University of Hawaii West Oahu, in Kapolei, Hawaii, April 11, 2026. Using models and demonstrations, the team showed how science and engineering are utilized throughout the environmental remediation process at the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF). Charged with the safe decommissioning of the facility, NCTF-RH was established by the Department of the Navy as a commitment to the community and the environment. NCTF-RH continues to engage with the people of Hawaii, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as it safely and deliberately decommissions the RHBFSF.
