The littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1) gets underway for the at-sea phase of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Malaysia 2013. More than 1,200 sailors and Marines are participating in CARAT. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste.
