Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class William Gibson (left) and Yeoman 2nd Class Chris Slaton, both from Navy Operational Support Center Ventura County, listen as Estelle Berke, native of Detroit, describes the ship movements that brought her to Europe. Berke worked as a clerk for the 101st Airborne, Company B – 502 at the Palace of Versailles in 1943 and related the story during a Flag Day celebration at the Pacifica Senior Living Center as a part of the Spirit of ’45 celebration. Organized by VITAS Innovative Hospice Care and Pacifica, the event gave younger military a chance to hear the stories from their predecessors.
