U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jake LaBarbera, a fire support Marine assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, employs a laser designator to mark a target for close-air support during Exercise America Strike at Bombing Target 11, Piney Island, North Carolina, Jan. 22, 2026. The training enabled joint terminal attack controllers and joint fires observers to build and validate close-air support proficiency and certify personnel for operational readiness. Bombing Target 11, an outlying field operated by Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, provides the infrastructure and realistic training environment necessary for units to safely and effectively employ air-delivered munitions.
