Commander G. Michael Pettinger, of Norfolk, Va., shows off his daughter's baby slipper at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. Pettinger carries on a tradition started by his wife's grandfather, Burt McIntosh, a former Army Air Corps pilot that flew 57 sorties with his daughter's baby slipper tucked inside his flight jacket.
