Ken Speegle, Veterans of Foreign Wars Alaska State commander, left, and Bill Yudiskas, Veterans of Foreign Wars Alaska State former commander, render a salute after displaying a wreath for the prisoner of war or those missing in action veterans during the Wreaths Across America ceremony at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Dec. 12, 2025. This tradition dates back to 1992 when Morrell Worcester donated and laid 5,000 wreaths on the graves of fallen Soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. This was an independent event for Worcester until a photo of snow-covered graves circulated on the Internet, starting a tradition that would continue for years to come.
