Daniel Jones, right, commanding officer of Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Hawaii (SSN 776), explains how to operate the periscope to members of the Japan Ministry of Defense and the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs during a tour aboard Hawaii at Fleet Activities Yokosuka as part of a scheduled port visit, Nov. 6, 2025. Hawaii, homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and assigned to Submarine Squadron 1, is conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
