Second Lt. Hailey Ramos, human factors engineer, wears hearing protection and tracks her hearing thresholds in the Real-Ear Attenuation at Threshold (REAT) Facility at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, Sept. 11, 2025. The REAT lab provided a quiet environment to measure the passive noise attenuation of hearing protection devices and is complemented by the Microphone in Real Ear (MIRE) Facility to measure the active insertion loss of devices that have active noise reduction technology.
