    Fort Knox Garrison Commander Col. David Holstead joins Lt. Col. Ulrich Humpert, a German Army liaison officer with the U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, Georgia, in laying a commemorative wreath at Fort Knox’s Post Cemetery, Nov. 19, 2025. As part of the annual Volkstrauertag, or National Day of German Mourning, Humpert and another liaison officer traveled to the Central Kentucky installation to pay respects to 17 German prisoners of war interred there.
