251107-N-UM744-1003- The Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine USS Newport News (SSN 750) returns to Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Conn., Friday, November 6th following the submarine's final regularly scheduled deployment after over 36 years in active service. Newport News and crew operate under Submarine Squadron (SUBRON) 12, whose primary mission is to provide fast-attack submarines that are ready, prepared, and committed to meet the unique challenges of undersea combat and deployed operations in unforgiving environments across the globe.
