Staff Sgt. Michael Irwin (center), a Delta, Ohio, native, with the 109th Military Intelligence Battalion, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, gets his ruck inspected following an eight-mile road march May 15 during the 7th Infantry Division's Bayonet Soldier and Noncommissioned Officer of the Year competition. The three-day competition tested soldiers in various areas, including the Army Physical Fitness Test, weapons qualification, day and night land navigation, a written essay and exam and a board appearance. The winners will be announced May 23 during the division's Bayonet Week.
