Patrick Earls, commanding officer of the Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Cooperstown (LCS 23), left, speaks with Command Master Chief Claudia Messinger as the ship sails in formation off the East Coast of the United States in support of UNITAS 2025, the 66th iteration of the world’s longest-running multinational maritime exercise. UNITAS, Latin for Unity, focuses on enhanced interoperability, building regional partnerships, and brings together approximately 8,000 personnel from 26 allied and partner nations, with multiple ships, submarines, and fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft conducting operations through Oct. 6 in the Atlantic and ashore near Naval Station Mayport, Fla.; Maine Corps base Camp Lejeune, N.C.; and Naval Station Norfolk, Va.
