U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District (SWG) Commander Col. David Dake [center] speaks to a crowd gathered at the Galveston Seawall during an event commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900, September 6, 2025. Dake made his remarks standing next to the Great Storm Statue, a 10-foot bronze statue made in honor of those who died during the 1900 storm. Guinness World Records also joined the festivities to bestow the honor of “longest walkway in the world” to Galveston’s seawall, ensuring its place in the record books.
