U.S. Army Lt. Col. Chad Fitzgerald, commander of the 3rd Security Force Assistance Brigade, Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve, gives his insight during a meeting with Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs, MoPA, during the Peshmerga 5th Division’s validation exercise in Rezan, Iraq, Sept. 9, 2025. The division was given simulated scenarios and worked through them using the military decision making process to show their capabilities as a self-sustaining force under MoPA. The coalition continues to support enhancements of partner forces to develop a sustainable and inclusive Peshmerga command that can secure its sovereign borders, protect the population and ensure a lasting defeat of ISIS.
