Oregon Air National Guard Master Sgt. Brant Vogelsang, a drone instructor, monitors an airborne AeroVironment RQ-20 Puma during a flight and capabilities demonstration alongside members of the People’s Army of Vietnam in Quang Tri, Vietnam, Sept. 12, 2025. The exchange enhanced the two partners’ shared understanding of how to implement sUAS platforms into Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief response efforts both locally and throughout the larger Indo-Pacific region. Pacific Friendship 2025 is an inaugural-annual exchange led by United States Army Pacific and represented by the U.S. Army’s 18th Theater Medical Command. The engagement reinforces the longstanding relationship between Vietnam and the United States, and includes Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, medical, civil affairs, and engineering lines of effort, which directly enhance the quality of life of Vietnamese citizens while helping the greater region prepare for manmade and historically-unpredictable natural disasters.
