A UH-72A Lakota helicopter operated by U.S. Soldiers, with 3rd Battalion, 140th Aviation Regiment, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB), is equipped with an LS-16 Night Sun Searchlight to illuminate points of interest near Santa Teresa, N.M., Aug 21, 2025. During this deliberate operation, UH-72 Lakota helicopters assigned to JTF-SB operated in coordination with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations to identify the sources of laser activity targeting aircrafts supporting southern border security. JTF-SB executes full-scale, agile, and all-domain operations in support of CBP to protect the territorial integrity of the United States and achieve 100% operational control of the southern border.
