A team of U.S. Marines with 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines, forward deployed with 4th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division as part of the Unit Deployment Program, and Okinawan community members, push off at the start of a race during the annual Henoko Hari Tournament at Matsuda-No-Hama, Nago, Okinawa, Japan, Aug. 17, 2025. The tournament, featuring teams racing in dragon boats, or “sabani,” is a traditional Okinawan event that dates back to the 16th century as a performance for the god of the sea to ask that the ocean provide an abundant harvest of seafood and for the safety of fishermen.
