During construction of the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain project, embankment material is sourced from a nearby stockpile. Stockpiles are far more than raw earth dumps. They’re engineered reserves of levee-fill material. Through pre-processing, moisture conditioning, strategic placement, and testing, they provide controlled, reliable materials needed to build levees that meet geotechnical standards. Stockpiling material also reduces schedule risk by ensuring material from the Bonnet Carre Spillway remains available even during high river or spillway operation.
