The portrait of WWI veteran Frank Buckles is unveiled during Pentagon ceremonies dedicating an exhibit of photography commemorating the last nine veterans who served in World War I on March 6, 2008. Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates (left) stands beside the 107 year-old Buckles, a veteran of both WWI and WWII. Secretary of the Army Pete Geren (right) stands with the photographer David DeJonge (2nd from right). Since the start of the photo project, seven of the veterans have passed away leaving only Buckles and John Babcock, who served with the Canadian forces in WWI, and was unable to attend the ceremony.
