PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii - June 27, 2025 – Before a welding lesson, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility welder training leader Bernie Manibog explains to shipyard Commander Capt. Ryan McCrillis proper filler wire handling procedures for welding June 27, 2025. McCrillis took a welding lesson in order to experience what apprentices at the shipyard learn as they begin their careers. PHNSY & IMF’s mission is to keep the Navy’s fleet “Fit to Fight" by repairing, maintaining, and modernizing the Navy's fast-attack submarines and surface ships. Strategically located in the heart of the Pacific, it is the most comprehensive fleet repair and maintenance facility between the U.S. West Coast and the Far East. (U.S. Navy photo by Mike Wilson)
