A Mississippi Army National Guard soldier with the 47th Civil Support Team spray-paints the iconic graffiti of Hurricane Katrina's aftermath, the ubiquitous orange "X" left by rescue and recovery teams. The symbol records, clockwise from the top, the date searched, the unit searching, the number of bodies found, and the existence of hazards, such as unstable structure, leaking gas, biological toxins, and so on. In this case, the soldier paints over a yellow mark previously left by searchers, perhaps civilians, who failed to use the standard procedure. Photo by 2nd Lt. Murray B. Shugars, Mississippi National Guard
