U.S. Air National Guard Munitions Systems Specialists, known as “AMMO,” assigned to the 163d Maintenance Squadron perform testing and assembly procedures on the GBU-38 at March Air Reserve Base, Calif., May 3, 2025. The GBU-38 is a Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) tail kit that converts a standard 500-pound bomb into a precision-guided munition. AMMO personnel are responsible for safely inspecting, assembling, storing, and delivering munitions to ensure combat-ready ordnance is available to support the wing’s mission.
