Lt. Gen. Thomas James, U.S. Space Command deputy commander, speaks to the more than 40 fellows from National Defense University’s Keystone course in Colorado Springs, Colorado, June 9, 2025. During his remarks he emphasized that space isn’t special, it is unique, and space professional must do more to train and educate people on the capabilities that space provides to the joint warfighter. During the Keystone course the fellows received briefs regarding the mission of USSPACECOM, so that they have a better understanding of the capabilities USSPACECOM offers to the joint warfighter. The Keystone course educates command senior enlisted leaders who are currently serving, or slated to serve, a general or flag-officer level position at a joint or service headquarters, including potential joint task force assignments. USSPACECOM works with senior leaders across the Department of Defense and our allies to foster a warfighting culture and promote professional growth, which is instrumental to the rapidly advancing capabilities of the Joint Force.
