Llanos retired after serving 32 years in the Marine Corps with extensive experience leading as a machine gunner on deployments such as the Mediterranean Sea for the Kosovo war and Okinawa, Japan for Operation Pacific Haven and later in his career transitioned into the recruiting sector while devoting his time to veteran services.
