The Puerto Rico National Guard (PRNG) joined the nationwide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States Army with a special ceremony honoring its history, legacy, and continued military service in Puerto Rico, June 13, 2025.
The main event, organized by the PRNG, featured the traditional Army birthday cake-cutting ceremony, a time-honored tradition observed annually at military installations across and beyond the United States.
As tradition dictates, the cake was cut by the longest-serving Soldier alongside the youngest and most recently enlisted Soldier, accompanied by members of the Puerto Rico National Guard leadership. This symbolic act represents the passing of values and commitment from one generation to the next.
The ceremony also included musical performances by the 248th Army Band of the Puerto Rico National Guard, a unit with over 100 years of history, renowned for its musical excellence and vital role in strengthening the bond between the military and the Puerto Rican people. The Band performed both at the official ceremony held at “Soldier’s Square” in the morning and at the commemorative luncheon hosted by the Gary Sinise Foundation—both events coordinated by Fort Buchanan.
These celebratory activities underscore the Puerto Rico National Guard’s dedication to honoring the Army’s history, preserving its traditions, and continuing its service to the people of Puerto Rico and the Nation.
