Petty Officer 3rd Class (Ret.) Ramon Rosales, a Korean War-era Navy veteran and El Paso native, attends the 250th U.S. Army Birthday “Splash Bash” at Freedom Crossing, Fort Bliss, Texas, June 14, 2025. Rosales, a former crew member of the USS Pueblo, was captured by North Korean forces in 1968 and spent 11 months as a prisoner of war. Now an advocate for veteran mental health, Rosales was invited as an honored guest to help bridge generations of military service. “Even though I served in the Navy, I’m honored to be here. Whether you’re Army, Marines, Air Force, or Navy—we’re all brothers,” said Rosales. “You learn not to take life for granted.”
