JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON – (June 10, 2025) – Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio participated in the 2024 Office of Naval Research’s Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) and Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) Photo Contest capturing top honors. The contest’s purpose was to capture the performance of NREIP/SEAPs in Department of the Navy facilities across the nation. Photos submitted were evaluated on relevance, photo composition, and originality. The winning photo was of NREIP intern Saeha Lee, of the University of Texas, and Cmdr. William Arden loading a sample onto on a rheometer at the Battlefield Health and Trauma Research Institute. Navy Medicine Research & Development (NMR&D) makes use of multiple channels to recruit and retain critical U.S. Navy medical support personnel. The research commands reach out to the next generation of scientists through conferences, STEM events, internships and career days, and support recruiting efforts early in undergraduate and graduate programs. NAMRU San Antonio, part of NMR&D, conducts gap-driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research in support of Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter health readiness and lethality while engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
