Command Sgt. Maj. (CSM) William Ferland, outgoing State CSM, New Hampshire National Guard (NHNG), gives a farewell speech during his retirement ceremony, June 8, 2025, at the Edward Cross Training Complex, Pembroke, N.H. After serving over 40 years in the NHNG, with five years as the state CSM, Ferland relinquished leadership of the NHNG to Command Sgt. Maj. Caleb Smith as part of his retirement.
“What an honor it is to stand before you today after serving in the New Hampshire Army National Guard my entire adult life,” said Ferland. “Even after 41 years in uniform, I never imagined how hard it would be to find the right words for a moment like this.” (U.S. Army National Guard Photo by Pfc.
