JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii — U.S. Navy divers, from Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit One (MDSU-1), take a sample of concrete from one of the mooring platforms attached to the hull of the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor May 29, 2025. The Navy will test the samples for potential hazardous material. The Navy plans to remove the deteriorating platforms later this year to prevent possible damage to the USS Arizona, its memorial and the environment. The platforms, which were attached to the ship following the attack on Pearl Harbor, were used by Navy divers to facilitate salvage operations of the vessel’s main guns and other equipment needed for the war effort.
