J.T. Pianetta, great nephew of Capt. Carl Bauer, inspects the wreckage at the B-29 "Colleen" crash site on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, April 11, 2025. J.T.'s mother, Liz Pianetta, is the niece of Capt. Bauer. Bauer flew B-29 "Colleen" for 13 successful bombing missions, before tragedy occurred on the 14th. A mixture of mechanical issues and bad weather forced the plane and its crew to their final resting place into the northern cliffside jungles of Guam. 2025 marks the 80th Anniversary of the accident and J.T. and his family came to the site to honor the fallen.
