A pair of Army Black Hawk helicopters take off to respond to a medical evacuation call here, May 5. The two, four-member crews consist of a pilot, co-pilot, flight medic and crew chief. The medevac crews are a critical link in the chain of events to ensure patients in Iraq are transported to the next echelon of care within one hour of being injured. Critically injured service members and civilians are often brought to the Air Force Theater Hospital at Balad AB for treatment.
