U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jonathan Dumadaug, a rifleman with Animal Company, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, returns fire on simulated enemy combatants with an M27 infantry automatic rifle during a simulated raid in support of MEU exercise at Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan, May 7, 2025. The raid simulated employing Marines to rapidly capture and control objectives essential to operations. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force, ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
