207th MIB - T Color Guard Supports the 80th Anniversary of Col. Darby

U.S. Army Soldiers from the 207th Military Intelligence Brigade – Theater, were the official Color Guard for the 80th anniversary of U.S. Army William O. Darby's death, Apr. 30, 2025, at Lake Garda, Italy. The Soldiers proudly presented the U.S. and Italian flags during the opening portion of the event. Their precision and professionalism added solemnity and honor to the proceedings, symbolizing the unity and mutual respect between both nations.

Col. Darby, founder of the U.S. Army Rangers, was killed in action on April 30, 1945, in Torbole, Italy — just days before the end of the war in Europe. His legacy of bold leadership, innovation, and sacrifice remains a cornerstone of Ranger history.

To honor his memory, U.S. Army Soldiers completed the Darby Challenge — a demanding 40-mile foot march retracing the final route taken by Darby and his men from the Po River to Torbole. The event tested both physical and mental endurance, echoing the grit and determination Darby exemplified.

U.S. Soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division, whose legacy also traces back to the mountains of northern Italy in WWII, stood shoulder to shoulder with their Italian counterparts in remembrance. The ceremony and challenge reaffirmed the enduring bond between the United States and Italy — a partnership built on shared history, mutual respect, and a common commitment to freedom.
