Michael Papa, assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Lassen (DDG 82), takes a bearing reading on the Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Tippecanoe (T-AO 199) as it replenishes the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and the guided-missile cruiser USS Shiloh (CG 67). Lassen, Kitty Hawk and Shiloh are operating in the western Pacific and are permanently forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.
