Iowa Army National Guard Sgt. Spencer C. Gull, a cavalry scout team leader with Alpha Troop, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, takes an exam as part of the National Guard Region IV Best Warrior Competition at Fort McCoy, Wis., May 2, 2025. Soldiers took a written exam and were quizzed on their Army knowledge and Soldier tasks, while being evaluated on their writing ability and eloquence. The National Guard Region IV Best Warrior Competition is an annual event where the state best warriors from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin compete in various warrior skill challenges, with the selected winners advancing to the national competition.
