Rear Adm. Doug Verissimo, commander Naval Air Force Atlantic (AIRLANT), speaks at the Sewell's Point Golf Course at the start of the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society's (NMRCS) annual Golf Tournament. The tournament is part of the NMCRS “By Our Own – For Our Own” annual fund drive, providing support to assist active-duty and retired families during unexpected, short-term financial challenges. The NMCRS annual fund drive takes place March 1 through April 30 each year.
This is the second year in a row that AIRLANT has organized this golf tournament for the NMCRS annual fund drive, held at both Sewell's Point Golf Course in Norfolk, and Aeropines Golf Course at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach. This year, the number of CNAL teams and players was almost double the previous year, totaling 226 players. All proceeds from the golf tournament will go directly to NMCRS.
