Antonio Pazos from the Norfolk District, focus on dewatering the six-mile-long Brooklyn Battery tunnel and Queens Tunnel in New York after hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, Oct. 29, 2012. It took eight days to dewater the Brooklyn tunnel and another three days for the Queens tunnel. Pazos, who worked in the operations center, controlling the flow of water and finding solutions for dewatering. Picture the Rose Bowl, an historic California landmark and outdoor athletic stadium that was the site of the 1932 and 1948 summer Olympics. More than 400 million gallons of water were drained from the two tunnels in New York; that’s enough to fill the Rose Bowl 1.5 times.
