U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Brian N. The two-time Purple Heart recipient LaSota returned to the island for the first time in 80 years with help from the Eagle Society, which brings WWII veterans back to their battle sites. LoSota visited multiple sites including Toguchi Beach, where he landed on the island, and Sugar Loaf Hill, where he was wounded twice.
