An American Alligator spotted basking in the sun in The Legends Golf Course on Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., Mar 18, 2025. American alligators were once threatened by extinction, but after being placed on the endangered species list in 1967, their population increased, and are now classified as least concern. It's important to remember that alligators are wild animals, and signs at the golf course remind golfers to avoid feeding them and to give them a wide berth. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Pfc.
